Potatoes

We are taking part in the potato project and have recently planted our potato seeds. We enjoyed following the instructions carefully to ensure the potato seeds grow. Once we harvest them we look at them and then cook them in a range of ways. Watch this space for updates.

Instructions

We have been looking at instructions and wrote instructions for ‘how to make a jam sandwich’. We enjoyed followings each other’s instructions carefully and then taste testing our sandwiches. We also looked at which shapes we could cut our sandwiches into.

Police visit

We have been learning about people who help us. We were fortunate to have a visit from our local PCSO team. They came and spoke to us about their roles and how they help us. We also learnt what to do in certain situations and now know which number to call if there is an emergency.

Chat with a Chicken

Today we were lucky enough to have a ‘Chat with a Chicken’ session organised by St Werburghs City Farm. The children enjoyed meeting the farmer and her Chicken and we learnt lots about chickens including:

-habitat,

-diet,

-body parts,

-what they give to us,

-eggs and chicks.

Every single child was also brave enough to smooth the chicken and commented on how soft and fluffy her feathers were. Another child described her talons as bumpy.

Superheroes

Our new topic is ‘Superheroes’. We have been looking at superhero stories, instructions on how to be a superhero and on Wednesday we will be meeting some real life superheroes. We’ve been learning about different job roles that help support us in our community. Not all superheroes wear capes!  Check back here to find out which superheroes will be visiting us later this week.

World Book Day

We had great fun celebrating World Book Day and dressing up as our favourite characters. We also took a walk to Cabot Circus and spent our book vouchers in Foyles book shop.

Jack and the beanstalk

On World Book Day Miss O'Brien came in as Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk. She explained how she had sold her cow for some magic beans but her mum was not happy. Miss O'Brien showed the beans to the children and then as a whole class team we planted then. Over the next few weeks we will be observing them as they grow and then comparing sizes in our Maths lessons for our our new topic on ‘height’ at the end of term 4.
