This week we have been focusing on finding one more and one less. To help us find the answer we have looking a range of different representations of number and using a range of tools to help us including cubes, Numicon, counting objects and number lines.
We have been reading the story ‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’ and learning the process of planting a seed alongside the days of the week. We then moved on to planting our own sunflower seeds and have been writing instructions to let others know what to do. Take a look at us planting our sunflower seeds. We have been watching the life cycle of a butterfly take place over the last few weeks and we now have 9 butterflies in class. The children were lucky enough to watch one of the butterflies emerge. We have given them their sugar water and some fresh fruit to help them build up strength before we release them in a couple of days. More photos to follow. The children have enjoyed watching them transform, emerge and flutter in their butterfly house. Take a look at us observing them below, all the children were brave and held a butterfly.
We have been looking after our potatoes really well and they are growing fast. We have now topped up the compost and are measuring how tall the shoots are in each group, comparing these. The children have really enjoyed taking care of the plants and are looking forward to cooking these soon.
